The Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics promotes the health, safety and well-being of children and adolescents so they may reach their full potential. The Ohio AAP will accomplish this by addressing the needs of children, their families, and their communities, and by supporting Chapter members through advocacy, education, research, service, and improving the systems through which they deliver pediatric care.
Screening for delays in development - A new report offers new findings on the importance of the use of evidence-based tools to screen for delays in development. The report offers new data documenting how clinical judgment can miss many children with delayed development, particularly in the areas of motor and cognitive delays. Click here to view the report’s abstract from the February 2010 edition of “Pediatrics.”
Study shows patient-held vaccination records improve immunization rates – A recent study in the March 2010 issue of “Pediatrics” reports that the use of patient/parent-held vaccination records is an easily implemented strategy that is associated with increased immunization rates. The results indicate that this simple intervention has a meaningful impact on vaccination rates, with the potential to affect clinical practice and public health planning. A greater effect was seen in groups at risk for under immunization. Click here to view the study. If your practice hasn’t had a MOBI (Maximizing Office Based Immunization) presentation recently, this might be a good time to schedule one.
