The Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics promotes the health, safety and well-being of children and adolescents so they may reach their full potential. The Ohio AAP will accomplish this by addressing the needs of children, their families, and their communities, and by supporting Chapter members through advocacy, education, research, service, and improving the systems through which they deliver pediatric care.
GOVERNOR KASICH RE-ESTABLISHES VOLUNTARY BMI SCREENING IN SCHOOLS - "The Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics applauds the work of Governor Kasich in re-establishing voluntary BMI screening in schools in the state budget. BMI screening is a terrific first step in the battle with childhood obesity, and we are encouraged that the Governor will continue to work with us to fight against this epidemic and invest in the health and well-being of Ohio's children," states Melissa Arnold, Executive Director of the Ohio Chapter, AAP.
OHIO CHAPTER WINS AWARD - The Ohio AAP Chapter received the 2010 Outstanding Very Large Chapter Award at the Annual Leadership Conference from the National Academy last weeked. Read more about the award in the next issue of Ohio Pediatrics, coming out soon.
CHAPTER RECEIVES PROCLAMATION FROM GOVERNOR - The Ohio AAP Chapter received an official proclamation from Gov. John Kasich declaring Sept. 21 Wear Your Bike Helmet to Work/School Day. The Chapter is planning many activities around promoting this day to encourage adults to wear their bike helmet as a model for children. Ohio AAP plans to give helmets to primary care providers to distribute through their practices, and will be looking at long-term goals and objectives to include such things as possible helmet legislation. Open Forum - The next Ohio AAP Open Forum Meeting will be held Feb. 20-21, 2012 at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. The Open Forum Meeting will now be a two-day event with an opening reception the evening before the Grand Rounds and panel discussions the following day. Click here for a complete agenda.
Save the Date - The 2012 Ohio AAP Annual Meeting will be held Sept. 27-29, 2012 at the Embassy Suites in Dublin. Topics and speakers will be announced at a later date. This will be the first time for poster presentations. Keep checking our website for more information.
