Adolescent

Committe Chair: James Fitzgibbon, MD

Description of committee including activities: The Adolescent Committee has been advocating for teens in many areas, particularly those living in nontraditional sites (i.e. detention homes and runaway shelters). Education is another activity. The commitee is focusing on three educational areas: recognition and treatment of type II diabetes in teens; teen-age depression (office recognition and treatment; and teen substance abuse. The committee will be developing Teen Tools a newsletter focusing on these topic areas. The committee is also focusing on on access to care. This is often difficult for teens with mental health needs, eating disorders and substance abuse problems.
