Description of committee: Membership is open to Ohio pediatricians 55-years-old and older and retired members. OWLS stands for Older Wiser Laughing Seniors. Ohio AAP folowed the vision of the AAP Section for Senior Members by establishing this committee in 2007 on the chapter level. Ohio AAP realizes that senior members have a great deal of experience to share.

Goals and Activities: The Senior Committee is looking for regional representatives to help with:

Phone/e-mail tree for advocacy - developing a regional system in your area to reach out to legislators quickly.
Volunteer Arm of the Ohio AAP - opportunities such as reading to children in waiting rooms, working with foster children.
Speakers Bureau - going to schools to give talks, meeting with parent groups.
Legislation and Child Advocacy - looking at possible legislation focusing around liability insurance for those who volunteer in free clinis.
Annual social activity - get together and meet new pediatricians and/or reconnect with former colleagues.

Meeting dates: The committee meets via teleconference and once a year in person.
