Program Initiatives
The Ohio AAP Chapter is in an exciting period of development right now, with many great programs already implemented such as:
- Reach Out and Read Ohio - The mission of the Reach Out and Read Ohio (ROR Ohio) program is to make literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love of reading. The ROR model uses the existing structure of pediatric primary care, in which parents of young children have regular, one-on-one, developmentally focused visits with pediatricians during the first years of a child's life. By integrating literacy into well-child visits, pediatricians promote the acquisition of spoken and written language skills in young children, thereby increasing the likelihood of eventual school success.
- Maximizing Office Based Immunizations (MOBI) - Maximizing Office Based Immunization (MOBI) is a free statewide provider immunization education and training program developed for health-care providers. During the MOBI training, health-care providers receive information that can be used to achieve the complete and timely immunization of infants and young children in Ohio.
- Autism Diagnosis Education Pilot Project - This project will engage families, child care providers, educators, health-care professionals, and leaders in their communities in identifying opportunities to promote early identification of autism using standardized methods, while facilitating regional coordination of linkages with timely, effective services for children with autism spectrum disorders. .
Coming next year, Ohio AAP will be addressing the needs of pre-teen girls with our Young Girls Initiative.
